What is innovation financing?
Financing innovation refers to all the financial resources made available to companies to develop and implement innovative ideas, products, services or methods. Without capital, an idea, no matter how innovative, cannot be developed. This form of financing is therefore necessary to enable companies to stand out from the competition and stimulate their growth.
How do you finance an innovative project?
To finance an innovative project, it's essential to choose the appropriate financing method according to the stage of development and type of innovation. The most common options include : Self-financing: the entrepreneur uses personal resources to get the project off the ground. This is generally the first step in testing the viability of the innovation. Equity capital: this can come from personal savings, "love money" (money from family or friends), or contributions from outside partners. Public funding: this can take various forms (subsidies, soft loans, tax credits) and can be applied for at different stages in the project's development. Participatory financing: this involves raising funds from a large number of people via online platforms. Private investment: this can come from business angels, venture capital funds or companies.
What are the main sources of financing?
The main sources of funding for innovation can be grouped into three broad categories. Public funding: This includes grants, soft loans and tax credits such as the Crédit d'Impôt Recherche (CIR). Numerous innovation support programs are set up by public institutions at various levels: local, regional and national. Examples include the France 2030 plan, and assistance from Bpifrance. Private funding: This includes venture capital, development capital, business angels and participatory financing. These sources of financing are often sought by start-ups and SMEs in their growth phase. Mixed financing: These solutions combine the advantages of public and private financing. Examples include equity loans and repayable advances.
What are the 3 types of assistance available to company founders?
The creator of an innovative company can benefit from three main types of aid to finance his or her project. 1. Tax incentives: These schemes reduce the amount of tax payable. They include the Research Tax Credit (CIR), the Innovation Tax Credit (CII) and the Young Innovative Company (JEI) status. 2. Direct grants: This type of aid is generally granted in the form of a subsidy. They are awarded by public bodies such as Bpifrance, ADEME or Regional Councils. 3. Indirect aid: These are loans at preferential rates or repayable advances. These are often dedicated to high-potential projects, and can represent a significant source of financing.
