In this article, we detail the four main types of financing offered by Bpifrance to encourage market research.

Definition: what is Bpi France?

Bpifrance, or Banque Publique d'Investissement, is a French financial institution. Its mission is to support businesses at every stage of their development, by providing financing tailored to their needs.

Bpifrance offers a wide range of services, from funding innovation to capital investment. It also plays a major role in regional economic development, working closely with local players.

Among its actions, Bpifrance offers assistance and financing for market research, a key step for any entrepreneur wishing to create or develop a business.

The 4 main types of financing

Innovation Diagnosis: for SMEs looking to innovate

Bpifrance's first scheme, called "Diagnostic axes d'innovation", is aimed at SMEs or ETIs with fewer than 2,000 employees looking to innovate. It can be used at Fund for a market study, up to a maximum of €16,000 including tax, with Bpifrance covering 50% of the cost.

French Tech grant: to encourage the start-up phase of innovative companies

The second Bpifrance scheme is the "Bourse French Tech". It is intended for young companies less than a year old, as well as individual entrepreneurs (in practice it is very rare for the BFT to be granted to individuals), provided they are supported by innovative project support structures (e.g. incubators, gas pedals, support networks, platforms, recognized associations). The grant covers 70% of eligible expenses (such as market research), up to a maximum of €30,000.

Start-ups less than one year old must also have fewer than 50 employees, and sales or balance sheet total of less than €10 million.

French Tech Emergence grant: for DeepTech

The third scheme is the "Bourse French Tech Emergence". This funding is aimed at young French companies less than a year old with deeptech projects. The grant covers 70% of eligible expenses, up to a maximum of €90,000. Market research services are included.

BFT Lab: Bpifrance pre-creation financing for deeptech projects

Lastly, the "BFT Lab" is intended for deeptech project leaders who have received maturation or pre-maturation funding for their technology from a founding member of a Pôle Universitaire d'Innovation (PUI). It covers an amount from €30K to €120K, limited to the funding already granted by an ORDC, member of the PUI. Part of this amount can be dedicated to a market study.

An Organisme de Recherche et de Diffusion des Connaissances (ORDC) is a public or private entity dedicated to research and development (R&D) and the dissemination of its results. This includes universities, research institutes, technology transfer agencies, innovation facilitators and collaborative research entities.
